  31. ViewNotes are online documents designed to answer questions you
  32. may have about Microsoft Windows-based products. To read this
  33. ViewNote in Microsoft Multimedia Viewer, a program that allows
  34. you to read .MVB files (online Viewer documents), follow the 
  35. instructions below. ViewNotes require Microsoft Windows operating
  36. system version 3.0 or later.

  38. FILES THAT MUST BE DOWNLOADED
  39. -----------------------------

  41. This ViewNote requires the following:
  42.  
  43.  - VD007.MVB (the ViewNote)
  44.  - VD007.IND (the ViewNote index)
  45.  - MMVIEW.EXE (Microsoft Multimedia Viewer)
  46.

  48. INSTALLATION
  49. ------------
  50.  
  51. Note: If you already have Microsoft Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE)
  52. installed in your VIEWNOTE directory, skip to step 2.
  53.  
  54. To install Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE) and the files for this ViewNote
  55. (VD007.MVB and VD007.IND), do the following:
  56.  
  57. Note: To save hard-disk space, you may prefer to copy this 
  58. ViewNote to a high-density floppy disk and run the ViewNote from 
  59. the floppy disk rather than running the ViewNote from your hard 
  60. disk). If this is the case, copy the MMVIEW.EXE, VD007.MVB,
  61. and VD007.IND files to a floppy disk instead of to your VIEWNOTE
  62. directory.

  64. 1. If you do not have a VIEWNOTE directory set up with 
  65.    MMVIEW.EXE located in the directory, do the following to 
  66.    install a read-only version of Viewer:
  67.  
  68.    a. Create a directory by choosing Create Directory from the 
  69.       File menu in File Manager, typing "viewnote" (without the
  70.       quotation marks) in the Name box, and choosing the OK 
  71.       button.
  72.  
  73.    b. Download Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE) from your bulletin board
  74.       service (for example, from the Microsoft Download Service
  75.       [MSDL], OnLine, CompuServe, or GEnie). MMVIEW.EXE can be 
  76.       obtained from the Software/Data Library on CompuServe, 
  77.       OnLine, and GEnie by searching for the word MMVIEW or 
  78.       S13434. Note that MMVIEW.EXE is compressed in the file 
  79.       MMVIEW.ZIP on CompuServe, OnLine, and GEnie. After the file 
  80.       has been downloaded, you must decompress the file using the 
  81.       PKware PKUNZIP utility.

  83.       Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE) can also be downloaded through the MSDL
  84.       at (206) 936-6735. Viewer is located in the Windows 3.1 
  85.       file area and is in the self-extracting file MMVIEWER.EXE.

  87. 2. Follow the instructions below. For example, if you obtained
  88.    Viewer from MSDL, follow the instructions under the "MSDL
  89.    Users" heading.

  91.    MSDL Users
  92.    ----------

  94.    After you have downloaded MMVIEWER.EXE, move it to your 
  95.    VIEWNOTE directory or floppy disk. Because this file is 
  96.    compressed, it needs to be expanded by typing the name of the
  97.    file (MMVIEWER) at an MS-DOS command prompt. (MMVIEW.EXE is
  98.    the expanded Viewer file used to read ViewNotes.) Also, 
  99.    move VD007.MVB (the ViewNote) and VD007.IND to your VIEWNOTE 
  100.    directory or floppy disk:

  102.    a. In File Manager, select the files you want to move.
  103.    b. From the File menu, choose Move.
  104.    c. In the To text box, enter the path to the VIEWNOTE 
  105.       directory you created in step 1a.
  106.    d. Choose the OK button.

  108.    OnLine, CompuServe, GEnie Users
  109.    -------------------------------

  111.    After you have downloaded MMVIEW.EXE (and decompressed 
  112.    it if you are using OnLine, CompuServe, or GEnie), move 
  113.    MMVIEW.EXE, VD007.IND, and VD007.MVB (the ViewNote) to 
  114.    your VIEWNOTE directory or floppy disk:

  116.    a. In File Manager, select the files you want to move.
  117.    b. From the File menu, choose Move.
  118.    c. In the To text box, enter the path to the VIEWNOTE 
  119.       directory you created in step 1a.
  120.    d. Choose the OK button.

  122. READING THIS VIEWNOTE
  123. ---------------------

  125. To read the "Word for Windows Setup & Troubleshooting Guide" 
  126. ViewNote, 
  127. do the following:
  128.  
  129. 1. After installing Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE), VD007.MVB, and 
  130.    VD007.IND using the instructions above, run Windows 
  131.    File Manager.
  132.  
  133. 2. If you are running "Word for Windows Setup & Troubleshooting
  134.    Guide" from your hard disk, open the directory where Viewer,
  135.    VD007.MVB, and VD007.IND reside (the VIEWNOTE directory if you
  136.    followed the directions above) and double-click VD007.MVB.
  137.    If you are using a keyboard, select VD007.MVB and press ENTER.

  141.    If you are running "Word for Windows Setup & Troubleshooting 
  142.    Guide" from a floppy disk, run MMVIEW.EXE, choose Open from the File menu
  143.    in Viewer, select VD007.MVB, and choose the OK button.

  145. SETTING UP A VIEWER ICON
  146. ------------------------
  147.  
  148. If you set up a Viewer icon, you can run Viewer by choosing the
  149. icon, and then load the ViewNote by choosing Open from the 
  150. File menu in Viewer, and selecting VD007.MVB from the VIEWNOTE
  151. directory. To set up a ViewNote icon, create a program item for
  152. Viewer. For information about creating a program item, see pages 
  153. 78-81 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for Windows version 
  154. 3.1 and pages 89-91 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for 
  155. version 3.0.
